So I guess my speculations on Unofficial Tours were right. You can’t use them for Event Tournaments because the game reckons the tour is unofficial and will only upload the loyalty data… So if you really have nothing better to do, I guess it is alright to play those Safari Big Air Tours.

Everybody's Golf Challenge Fail.

The reason why this is messed up is because if you look at the settings/rules there is a little sunny icon… Clear Weather is considered as an advantage so does not count, however this tour is on Great Safari… … Safari barely even rains at all.

Ugh… Got caught up messing around with Street Fighter IV while server was in maintenance… Seems like they’ve are either being really cheap or are developing something big and it is costing them time and money to do. This month they are charging for lobby parts?

Update [09052801]:

  • Minna no Golf 5 Additional Lobby Parts Set Vol. 1 Added.*
    * To use the parts you will need to purchase it from the Playstation Store.
    みんなのGOLF 5 追加ロビーパーツセット Vol.1: 300円

Well let’s see what they are talking about…wait it isn’t even on the store yet… lame. Don’t bother with this too much if lobby parts don’t matter, plus half the parts are probably available on the International Server for umm Free? 😛

33 Parts Included.

Well the challenge event has begun for May. It doesn’t seem like there are any prizes, so I guess no need to play…?

Highland Speed Run Challenge – Thursday 14th to Wednesday 20th May
We’ve cranked the round speed up to “Fast” so you’ll need to think on your feet to make it through to the end of the Highland Country Club course.

Storm In A Tee Cup Challenge – Thursday 21st to Wednesday 27th May
Battle strong winds and rainy weather across the testing Oceania Resort Course.

Big Air Challenge – Thursday 28th May to Wednesday 3rd June
Reach for the skies and try to hit as far as you can with the Big Air club and ball on the Great Safari Country Club course.

Still fun I guess, if you want to kill time while waiting for a real tour… 😉

Looks like the schedule has been fixed, still two floors though but more tours per hour on each floor is quite welcome… I don’t play them so it doesn’t really effect my online habits.

Congratulations to those who made it into the top ten on the leader board for either of the two events… there is still more events to come for those who missed out this time around. For those who did make it in, you can collect your prizes by viewing the leader board for the event and you will receive the prizes for your efforts.

Will edit this later… Busy at the moment.

Well the first event held on the International server is now over, so let’s re-cap how it all went… from what I experienced the event wasn’t really as fun as anticipated. Many people were getting frustrated over different bits… but for now I will explain how events can or are run over at Minna no Golf 5 [Japanese Server].

Events at Minna no Golf 5

Usually an event at Mingol 5 is sponsored by a company in hopes of promoting or bringing awareness to their own products or brand. The events run for about a week and have prizes for several areas… As an incentive to join or participate in an event tournament players are all given a event participation prize for completing one round of the event tour. Event tournaments are run as Grade Tournaments and also hand out prizes as per usual for placing in a spot in each tour, these are special event prizes and are available to everyone who participates and makes a spot. When you finish collecting the prizes the tours return to giving the standard prizes for each placement.

The leader board is then used for a special prize as the top ten players from each course will receive an extra event prize different to the ones from the tour. At the end of the event a special number is announced and those on the score board with that number in their placement will receive a bonus prize which is also different from the top ten player prizes. All this is set up and sounds like it is made so that even players who aren’t as experienced with the game has a chance of receiving a prize. Sounds good to me…

What Happened?

This event was nothing like that. Instead it was set up so those who either have more time or experience will have a chance at the prizes available, of course there is nothing wrong with this except that the lack of incentive and overall enjoyment was missing from the event. Events are meant to be fun right?

Personally I enjoyed the event rules, as well as they were a good challenge for me since they go against the way I enjoy the game. The part that made it no fun, well many of my friends weren’t enjoying the over all event as much…

Why was that…? Obviously the rules for the Easter Event Novice was a bit extreme even for a new player to enjoy. [Traditional Shot, No Backspin, No Super Spins and Novice Only.] Since the game is promoting the use of Advanced Shot system, those new to the series would definitely have a hard time adapting to the camera restrictions and feel of Traditional Shot after starting and learning the game from scratch on Advanced Shot.

I can see that they were probably thinking that this would even out the odds for an experienced player who uses backspin for every shot, but what about those who used to play Traditional Shot on the PlayStation Portable or older versions of the series? If their real intention was this, it would have definitely been better to set the rule Everybody’s Club Only and take away Back Spins but allow Super Spins because chances are you won’t get Perfect Impact when you need it.

The original rules published had also stated that the rules would be Big Cup and Standard Ball, which probably would have softened the blow on most players who weren’t having fun since Big Cup would allow for more reckless putting. The problem may have been that Big Cup makes the rules unofficial and thus scores wouldn’t submit onto the leader board, another might have been they ran out of rules applicable to a set tournament… chances are that isn’t the case because I have seen tournaments which go beyond the slots displayed by allowing the Novice, Intermediate or Expert Icon to be placed in the title and does not appear in the rules.

Granted that if the original rules did manage to get through into the event, it might have worked a little better… But still there was no incentive for players to play in these tours over and over again except to try and gain a top ten score. Although not many people have that much time, especially when they are still being penalized for withdrawing from a Grade Free Tour. This did also lead to a few problems it seems…

Well that’s a nice update… not the best but now you can dress up with the costumes of your favourite character.

Update [09043001]:

  • Player Character Costume Lobby Parts Added.
Costumes associated with their respective Download Content can be used and selected from the user lobby character editor.

It isn’t much, but they are kind of nice since we get them without having to play tours…  You can use any of the parts as long as you currently have the download content enabled on your Playstation 3 and download the update.

Things that need correcting:

Everybody’s Golf and Hot Shots Golf both can attend this event, it doesn’t make sense why they separate this event since if you don’t have 10 people in a tour it shouldn’t register anyway.

All tours are Grade Free…

No Big Cup…

Standard Club Only… Ball is selectable.

Celebrate Easter with Everybody’s Golf World Tour. The first official event for the International Server… During the Easter period there will be a few server generated Grade Tournaments which will have a few Easter themed lobby parts to collect.

There will be an event club house created, which will be running event tournaments through the event period… which is April 23rd~May 6th.

Lobby Prizes include:

  • Gold Crown and Silver Crown
  • Bunny Girl Set
  • Rabbit Head

Update: After looking at the specifications of the event, I suspect that the event maybe run in two ways…

1. Grade Tournaments where prizes are given out as usual.

2. Grade Free Tournaments and the Score Board Prizes. This is a function where the game is set to hand out prizes after the event has ended. Prizes are received from checking the board after the event has completed. If you’re unfamiliar with this more information can be found searching for past events on Minna no Golf 5.

Alright so there was an update but it wasn’t for the game. 🙂 The new 2.70 Firmware update for the Playstation 3 is very nice… XMB chatting no matter which game or what you are doing on the system.

I’m quite sure a lot of people picked up that yesterday’s post was a April Fools Joke. It was a follow up to a message I received awhile back where someone used me as a prop… I thought I would play along for the occasion.

Give away points to the suspicious last post were:

  • Former Game Masters of an Event
These people were just average people invited to be Game Masters during the event to look out and stirr the crowd abit with their unique items and to blog the event, they weren’t really  debug server testers or Clap Hanz developers. I was friends with a few of them but after the event they don’t log into their Game Master accounts anymore.
  • No Official Source
Regarding the times I mentioned in the post, even though maintenance happens for both servers on the same day… Usually if something big is coming up there will be atleast an updated login screen for Mingol.
  • Post/Event Category
All proper news or posts regarding the games are labeled in their respective categories. The post was labeled under a Shihiko post which usually is just me talking about something that happened for me with the game.

Anyway hope everyone who knew about it had a good laugh with their friends… 🙂

Just got on the server and was chatting with one of the past event Game Masters… It seems there was a reason that they test the game with the Everybody’s Golf World Tour client.

As some of you know, the Debug or Test server for the game is running Everybody’s Golf World Tour… well now that everything on both servers is up to date they want to increase the amount of players between the servers.

Both servers will be taken down tomorrow to be merged. Well not merged but you will be able to access both servers using any copy of the game. Neat yeah? Guess I can sell Everybody’s Golf World Tour now.

The servers will be down from April 2nd Japan Time 10am to 6pm. Then you will be forced to download the packages containing the data that consists of the differences or changes between the two servers to allow compatibility when playing Online with different clients.

The system will work similar to that of Minna no Golf Portable 2’s Infrastructure Online mode, so you will be able to select the server you want to connect to when you select Online Menu. Guess that might be why they have been abit slow lately with updates… 😉
